The 49th (Prahran) Infantry was a part-time pre-World War I militia unit that was established in 1912 and was absorbed into the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) during World War I.
Physical description
Brass hat badge with the number 49 superimposed on a map of Australia, on each side of which are wattle branches. At the top of the badge is a scroll with the words '49TH (PRAHRAN) INFANTRY'. This is surmounted with a crown. Below the map is a scroll containing the motto 'STAND FAST'.
