Ephemera - Christies Cocktails First Menu

Historical information

Pretty Valley Alpine Lodge was built at Falls Creek, Victoria in about 1963. The top floor was the former mess building at Rocky Valley hydro camp. In 1978, Barry Jones came to Falls Creek in 1978 before purchasing the Pretty Valley Alpine Lodge in 1979. He initially intended to stay for about three years but was still there four decades later. One of the important features of the Pretty Valley Alpine Lodge was Christies Cocktail Bar. Christies was the place to go for cocktails and après ski in the 80s and early 90s.

In 1996, Barry decided to take a calculated gamble. Christies cocktail bar, which traded on the premise for the ten previous winters was revamped in favour of an English pub, the Cock N Bull, in the heart of Falls Creek. The pub with traditional English fare and beers on tap rapidly became a success. Anglophile memorabilia, English relics, intimate wood-panelled booths, an authentic bar and two comfortable snugs all added to the atmosphere and style of something truly unique in the snowfields.
Each year, the opening of Cock N Bull unofficially marks the start of Falls' busiest time of the season, with residents gathering to celebrate.

Significance

This menu is significant because it is representative of an iconic venue in Falls Creek in the 1980s and early 1990s.
