The Defence Department is opening Fortuna Villa to the public on Saturday as part of a community consultation process before its sale.This provides a rare opportunity for locals to visit one of Bendigo's most iconic properties, formerly home to mining magnate George Lansell.

Federal Member for Bendigo, Steve Gibbons, encourages the community to visit and learn about the villa's history and potential future uses.The Villa Fortuna Action Group expects a large turnout and welcomes the opportunity, though they note the limited visiting time. Visitors can take a self-guided tour along a designated route to view significant elements of the villa. Some areas will be restricted due to safety hazards, and not all grounds will be accessible.The villa is located at 22-48 Chum Street, open from 9:30am to 3:30pm, with last entry to the grounds before 3pm.On-site parking is limited, and disabled access is not guaranteed.
