Summary

It was the first time Mr Justice Parrock had sat at the Old Bailey; and among the props waiting for him was that strange little black cap. It was odd, he reflected, that the first murder case he had to try should be the Vrosnick case. It could hardly be more dramatic ... He had no idea how infinitely more dramatic it was all going to become - or how deeply he himself was going to be involved - before the trial was over.
