Summary

Geoffrey Branston has disinherited his son, Hector, in favour of his nephew, Leslie, on condition that he marries his ward, Joan Eddis. Leslie becomes engaged to Joan, while at the same time he is secretly married to Nadine. When his uncle discovers the fact, he threatens to change his will, but just as he is about to carry out this threat, he is stabbed by Nadine and dies. Leslie causes suspicion for the murder to fall on Joan, and Joan flies to America to re-appear later as the famous movie star Joan Maryland. She determines to bring her guardian's murderers to justice and to secure the fortune to Hector, his son.
