Badge - Military badge, Stokes & Sons medal makers, Australian Field Artillery shoulder title badge, 1910-1912

Historical information

This type of badge was worn by part-time citizen forces and militia members on the shoulder straps of their uniform. It dates specifically to the Federation and pre-WWI period (c. 1900–1912). During this era, distinct state-based artillery units were grouped under the unified Australian Field Artillery banner following the federation of the Australian colonies.
Following the reorganisation of the military in 1912 and subsequent post-WWI uniform standardisation, the use of distinct metal text titles was largely phased out and replaced by fabric colour patches.
