Historical information

Tailors rubbed linen thread through a lump of wax to give the thread extra strength- for example when sewing on buttons. This piece of wax was used by Lettie SINCLAIR and dates from the 1880's when she worked as a tailoress in Flinders Lane.
Lettie married Albert BELLION and lived in Stokes and Rouse Streets, Port Melbourne.
The wax was always in her sewing basket and later used by both her daughter and grand-daughter.
