Photograph - Workers at Commonwealth Engine Works, 1952, 1952

Historical information

The Engine Works in Edwards Street (later Morley Street) were constructed in 1941-2 to build steam engines to propel ships. Later they built diesel engines with almost all components of the engines built on site.
In this photo almost the entire staff are pictured with the completed four-cylinder engine that was built for the freighter, SS Boonaroo, which had been built at Mort's Dock in Sydney.
