Historical information

Vinyl records dominated audio recordings commencing with the older 78 rpm in the 1930s and 1940s and in 1948 the longer playing 33 1/3 rpm vinyl record was released.
The rise of compact discs in the 1980s saw a decline in vinyl records but there has been renewed interest in more recent years with shops again selling them.

Physical description

Six records with variety of recordings on them.
a Record 78 rpm with two hymns 'King of Glory, King of Peace' and 'We sing the praise of Him who died'. Recorded by radio station 3B0 - date unknown. Record manufactured by Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Ltd., Sydney.
b Record with music from St Pauls Church, Bendigo. Recorded in about 1954. Recordings 'Organ Solo Christ Lay in Death's Dark Prison' and duet from Stainer's 'Crucifixion for tenor and bass - AH! Twas Love'. Record produced by GT Transcription Services.
c Record with 'Byer Industries Pty. Ltd., Melbourne, Australia' printed on it. Cover has printing 'HIS MASTER'S VOICE'. Information regarding recordings made in Australia.
d Recording of service rededicating of the bells and rehallowing of the tower of St. Paul's, Bendigo. Produced by Warne A. Wilson of Ballarat. Transcription AMCO, Sydney. 33 1/3 LP.
