Summary
The title of the series of handbooks of which this is a volume implies that the subjects treated are confined to those classes of objects which can be collected and preserved in a permanent form, and hitherto this has been the case. In the present instance, however, the plants described are not well adapted for such preservation, and the only thing that can be done is to give an account of their structure and habits, and explain how they may be procured in the for of observation.
