Summary

Ferdinand Armine, born into an aristocratic but impoverished family, becomes engaged to his cousin Katherine, mainly for financial reasons. He meets and falls in love with a neighbour's daughter, Henrietta Temple, and they become secretly engaged. After many twists and turns in the plot, they are able to marry, and pay out Ferdinand's debts. Dedicated to Disraeli's friend Count Alfred D'Orsay.
