Historical information

This tram was initially a straight sill car known as a Sebastopol type. It was No.23. It was one of three trams built specifically for Ballarat in 1913. In mid 1930s it was converted to be a scrubber. This meant the inside of the centre section was removed and a large water tank and cleaning equipment fitted. It was used to clean the tracks and also used to clean drains when necessary. This was done at night and there were complaints about the noise it made. When the trams ceased to run in Ballarat it was given to the Tramways Museum Society of Victoria, Bylands.
