Summary

The first badge to be officially worn by Australian Commonwealth troops on active service overseas, was a badge depicting the Rising Sun with the crown of King Edward VII, and the word AUSTRALIA. Since that first badge was worn in South Africa in 1902, the Rising Sun badge has proudly been worn by servicemen and women in five major wars and by members of the Citizen military Forces in the periods between.
