Historical information

Carbon skids, used to pick up the power from the overhead for trams, were introduced to Melbourne when the Bourke St lines were built - mid-1950s. They replaced trolley wheels on the top of the poles, and over time, were used system-wide except for the Footscray lines. The smaller of the two may have been experimental or obtained from another body.

Brass casting fitted with a carbon insert - set of 2. The carbon inserts have not been used.

Inscriptions & markings

Smaller of the two, has been stamped "482" and has a label "279" on the underside.
