Before the telephone, postcards were often used to send brief personal or business messages to others in Melbourne or further afield. There were eleven postal deliveries each week (two on weekdays, one on Saturdays) and postcards were cheaper than telegrams.

On front 'Princes Bridge Melbourne'. On rear: Postcard markings, 'Valentines Series' and a handwritten message beginning '11.10.010 (perhaps 1910) Dear Ett & Bertie'. The note describes the terrible cold and wet weather in Melbourne and expresses hope that they are having better weather and a good time. Signed 'husband Les'.
