Photograph - VR Tram Barkly St, pre 1914

Historical information

Photograph looks south along Barkly St, St Kilda at the intersection of Mitford and Blessington Sts. A Victorian Railways single truck combination car with cross bench trailer is travelling northward, bound for its St Kilda Station terminus. The original 1906 tramway from St Kilda Station to Brighton Beach was single track with a double shunt at the station and six passing loops. By 1914 the northern half of this line from the station to the Elwood Depot was duplicated. This dates the photograph to before 1914.
