Photograph looks south at St Kilda Junction through a large triple arch displaying the word 'Welcome' and the municipality names of Prahran and St Kilda. A cable tram, horse drawn carriages and pedestrians move through the arches. This arch was one of a number erected for the May 1901 opening of Australia's first Parliament in the Royal Exhibition Buildings by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York, who in 1910 would become Australia's King George V and Queen Mary. The duke and duchess visited St Kilda Pier during their visit.
