Significance

Howard Arkley (1951–1999) was one of Australia’s most distinctive and influential contemporary artists, best known for his airbrushed, hyper‑colour images of suburban houses and interiors.

His work turned the everyday architecture of Melbourne’s suburbs, brick veneers, triple‑fronted homes, patterned interiors, into bold, iconic art.
