Photograph shows a line of 5 fully loaded single truck combination tramcars from the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust (PMTT). They are stationary on the southbound track at the corner of Glenferrie Road and Wattletree Road, Malvern. A large crowd of well attired men and women has gathered. The window of the front driver's cab is open and a senior male has just cut a ribbon with a set of scissors.

In 1910 the PMTT began a 10 year program of continuous electric tramway expansion from its depot a few hundred metres north of this location. This event marked the opening of one of the earlier stages, south and west along Glenferrie Road and Dandenong Road to Windsor railway bridge. The date was 16 December 1911.
