Card - Season's Greetings, AGCC, 1970s

Historical information

An example of greeting cards produced by charities as fundraisers. This familiar scene of a tram descending the Collins Street hill to Swanston Street has been included in the work of many artists and photographers since the 1890s. Here the accomplished artist, Eliza Szarukan, depicts a W class tram and motor vehicles along a rain-drenched Collins Street under clouded skies. The wet road reflects the outline of some of the buildings above. Eliza Szarukan (1927-2015) studied art in Hungary and moved to Australia in 1949, becoming a member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists.
