Summary

Set in the 18th century this historical novel is the tale of a young heiress, raised in seclusion, who is torn between loyalty to family and to the apparently disreputable young man she loves.
The book is regarded as a minor work by Disraeli, and thought to have been written mainly as a way to clear his significant debts at the time.
