Historical information

Tram 17 was built in 1915 by Meadowbank Manufacturing Sydney for Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It came to Ballarat in 1931 as part of the fleet of the State Electricity Commission. The photograph shows the tram at the hospital corner as it is entering Drummond Street. A green tram shelter is shown on the medium strip. When the trams ceased running in 1971, it was obtained by the Tramway Museum Society of Victoria. Photograph was taken by Campbell Duncan on 11 August 1971.
