Photograph - Hazel Wilson, Alma Przbysz and Emily Lock, 2003

Historical information

Hazel WILSON is on the left and Alma PRZYBYSZ in the middle. The photo was taken at the front of the South Melbourne Uniting Church and my guess it was the 150th anniversary service which would have been 2003. Alma died in 2016. She lived in Withers Street in Albert Park and I think had originally been a member of the Salvation Army church which closed down - was in Spring St. (interestingly the Salvation Army church was run by Jude MUNRO's parents and she lived in Spring St when she was growing up.) Alma used to volunteer at the Op Shop. Hazel moved out of Port some years before she died. She lived in a single fronted brick place in Princes St between Graham and Rouse. She and Mary GARNER did things together, such as run the Burra Club when it first started. Originally it seemed to be a social time for elderly people who were on their own. Over time it morphed into a group for people requiring additional support and eventually received government funding and employed people to run it. - Anne GARROW 2022
