Ernest Daintree operated a pharmacy at 410 High Street, St Kilda in the late 19th century. He was the subject of notoriety in 1892 for unwittingly selling laudanum to a schoolboy who bought it at the request of a woman who later used it to commit suicide, and in 1893 for unknowingly selling chloroform to a man who used it in an attempt to kill his wife. In 1895 Daintree shifted his business to 318 High Street, St Kilda, and later moved to Malvern. He died following a car accident in Port Macquarie in 1947.
