Fitted to carriages and tramcar bodies built by Benjamin Carne in Strathfield NSW. The central saloon section of ESCo No. 12 was built by this builder in 1892 as a North Sydney cable tram - see Conservation Plan for ESCo 12. Understood that he went bankrupt and moved to South Africa. Located by descendents and donated to the Museum August 2026. Has not been used.

Demonstrates a builders plate or plaque used by a carriage builder to mark their products.
Physical description
Oval enameled metal plaque or plate with black text on a white background, reading "B. CARNE, Car & Carriage Builder, STRATHFIELD CARRIAGE WORKS, NEW SOUTH WALES." Has two 4mm holes, one at each end.
