Nui Dat, November 1970: US Army Colonel J R (Joe) Ulatoski presented “Sabu” to Brigadier W G (Bill) Henderson, Commander of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) as part of an on-going elephant joke between the Australians and the American "Tropic Lightning" division - the US Army's 25th Infantry Division, in Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam.

Physical description

Aged Asian elephant skull found in jungles of Vietnam in 1970. Has a large hole in the left side which reveals the honeycomb interior.

Inscriptions & markings

Square silver metal plate bearing the red and yellow shoulder patch of the United States Army 25th Infantry Division , engraved with words "I agree" above a cartoon elephant, and the words 'Elephants are beautiful!" below.
