Historical information

Photograph shows a W class tram in Bridport Street en route to 'South Melbourne' with another tram in the distance travelling to the city. The street is lined with shop verandahs and numerous motor cars. This line was converted from cable tram to electric tram in 1937 and ran long Collins Street, Spencer Street, Clarendon Street, Park Street, Montague Street, Bridport Street and Victoria Avenue. The photograph appears to be a copy of a Hugh Latimer photograph from that time.
