Historical information

Gold was discovered in Victoria Hill in1854. Victoria Quartz mine Shaft was 4,870 ft (1484 metres) deep when it closed in 1913 and was the deepest shaft in the world, it yielded 48,817 ounces of gold. The Victoria Hill area yielded half a million ounces of gold worth three billion $ Aus. at present values.

The plan includes Calder Highway, Eaglehawk Road, Happy Valey Road, Conrad Heinze Butchers shop 1871-1876, Rae's open cut, Victoria Quarts Mine, Ballerstedts open cut, Central Nell Gwynne mine and John Brown factory. Four black and white photographs surround the plan, three are of mining buildings one is labeled VICTORIA QUARTZ and one aerial photograph of the area.
