This photographic copy of an older photo shows a Carlton-bound cable tram on a flooded Chapel Street adjacent to the Jam Factory. The Yarra River and its tributaries frequently flooded in the 1800s and early 1900s before flood mitigation works were completed. This photograph might be from the disastrous Melbourne Flood of 1891 when the Yarra River flooded the Toorak Engine House and submerge many cable lines. Alternatively, it may be dated 1907 when South Yarra was hit with a flash flood on 25 January.
