Historical information
Walter Charles Marlborough was born in 1859 at Islington, London UK, in 1907 he married Olive Elsie Insall (from Castlemaine, Vic) in Melbourne. Walter was variously described as a salesman, and dealer in general & secondhand goods and practised this trade at (initially) 268 and (finally) 221 Bay Street Port Melbourne between 1916 and 1923 [refer Sands & MacDougall Directories]. This photo portrays Walter outside his shop at 221 Bay Street in c. 1920, the shop was on the NW corner of Bay Street and Liardet Street, Port Melbourne.
Prior to Marlborough's occupation of 221 Bay Street it had been used by a general consumables retailer, hence the remnant signage of Robur Tea.
