Historical information
This map was printed and published by W Fairfax & Co and was an inclusion in Bradshaw's Guide to Victoria which was a monthly colonial travel handbook and railway timetable published in Melbourne from 1856 to 1942. A handwritten note at the bottom right of the map suggests it's date as "1860?". This date is doubtful as the map's description includes the suburb of North Melbourne, this name dates only to 1887 prior to that it was known as Hotham. However the map uses the name Sandridge which was changed to Port Melbourne in 1884, so it is most likely a reprint of an earlier map (perhaps 1860) which has only been partially updated in terms of suburb names.
The map includes Melbourne and surrounding suburbs including Sandridge, Emerald Hill, St Kilda, Windsor, Prahran, Richmond and Collingwood.
