About

Mornington Peninsula Shire is responsible for more than 70 services from family and children’s services, traffic regulation, open space, youth facilities, waste management and community building; to matters concerning business development, planning for appropriate development and ensuring accountability for Council’s budget. This broad range of community services and infrastructure for residents supports the wellbeing and prosperity of our community.

The Art and Culture Department programs are tailored to inspire creativity and foster a love for the arts, providing opportunities for artistic expression through music, visual arts, creative writing, dance, and performance. From youth programs that introduce the fundamentals of creativity, to workshops for adults and seniors focused on honing skills and building community, we ensure that every participant feels included, regardless of background or experience. By collaborating with local artists, educators, and cultural leaders, we create meaningful experiences that reflect the rich diversity of our community.

Our collection

The Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Civic Art Collection reflects the rich cultural identity of our region, showcasing a diverse range of works that celebrate our local environment, history, and community. The collection includes paintings, works on paper, textiles, mosaics, murals, mixed media, and other community-created artworks. Many works have been acquired through past art shows, community initiatives, and generous donations from local artists or their families. While landscapes—both of the Peninsula and beyond—form a significant part of the collection, themes also include community identity, cultural heritage, and creative expression rooted in place. Displayed across Shire offices, libraries, community hubs, and public spaces, the collection fosters community connection, pride, and engagement while supporting and promoting the work of local artists. It is an evolving collection, managed to ensure ongoing relevance, accessibility, and preservation for future generations.
