Significance

Historical record of the beginnings of the Darebin Parklands and its role in the community. Documents the efforts of the citizens of Ivanhoe, Alphington and Heidelberg -- the Darebin Parklands Association (DPA) -- and rangers from the DCMC to maintain and preserve nature and wildlife for residents to enjoy in Melbourne's inner-north.

Audio recordings, including a recording (approximately 25 minutes) in which Sue and Laurie Course discuss their role in restoring the Rockbeare Park and acquiring the former tip-site, later to become the Darebin Parklands.

Historical information

Sidney Clifton was a mechanical engineer and a lecturer at Melbourne University. He built the house, which is still in the family. He was a foundation member and treasurer of Darebin Parklands Association. He designed Clifton Bridge in Darebin Parklands and built the wooden formwork for it in his living room in this house. It was built with volunteers and funded by a grant from Heidelberg and Northcote Councils. He was a foundation member and treasurer of Darebin Parklands Association.
