Our collection
Deakin University Art Gallery Collection
This collection is managed by the Deakin University Art Collection and Galleries Unit. The Unit also manages the Deakin University Art Gallery, which aims to provide a focus for current cultural and intellectual scholarship, research and professional practice, while delivering a dynamic visual arts focus for the University both nationally and internationally. Works from the University collection are circulated and displayed on the University's four campuses throughout Victoria. They are also loaned out to external organisations for exhibitions. The collection comprises over 2,700 important and diverse artworks principally by Australian artists, including sculpture, paintings, ceramic objects and artists books. Most of the collection is contemporary in nature. The older works in the collection were either donated to the University or came to it via its antecedent institutions. The collection also contains works by current and past Deakin staff members and Alumni.
The collection has two major sub-collections:
• Premium Collection
• Special Collections, including The Artists’ Book Collection, and The Sculpture Collection
Within the University’s collection there are a range of objects across all media mainly by contemporary artists. There are examples of woodwork, artist’s books, ceramics, glass works, metalwork piece, sculptures and textiles including two large scale tapestries.
