Loreto is a women's religious order established by 17th century Yorkshire woman, Mary Ward. The order came to Ballarat in 1875 and continued to found convents and schools in all mainland States. Loreto's archival collection is housed at the Loreto Archives Centre in Ballarat and includes historic documents, photographs, multi media, textile and artefacts relating to the establishment and development of the Loreto Missions in Australia and South-

East Asia.

Loreto Australia Nad South-East Asia Province Archives

The Loreto Archives is held in Ballarat in the Loreto Archives Centre. Our collection includes material dating from 1875 with the foundation of Loreto in Australia by founder, Mother Gonzaga Barry. Holdings include historic documents, photographs, multi media, textiles and artefacts relating to the establishment and development of the Loreto missions in Australia. The collection is widely used for genealogy, religious and gender studies.
