We lived in Nhill from 1952 to 1957 in the New Treasury Hotel (on the site of the Fire Brigade). My father, Arthur Goonan, lost his Liquor license I think due to serving liquor after 6pm more than 3 times. I wonder if you have newspaper clippings of news stories or court reportings of this event? Is is possible to view articles online of the Nhill Free Press for this period?

I'm searching for information about H. Henstridge and E.Ham from Nhill. They were members of the 14th Battalion AIF Band from WW1 and were mentioned in a Diary belonging to my GreatUncle 2nd Lieutenant Augustine ((Gus) Harris from Echuca who was the Bandmaster and in charge of the stretcher bearers. We have lost his official army photo, his Diary and letters so hoping that you may be able to help!

I AM LOOKING FOR AND INFORMATION ON EDWARD KELLY OR HIS "WIFE" MARY ANN BEST. I HAVE HEARD THAT KELLY TOWN WAS NAMED AFTER HIM. I BELIEVE THEY WERE SOME OF FIRST RESIDENTS OF NHILL ABOUT 1880's. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED.

I am looking for information on the Draper's shop, specifically around the mid 1940s, just after the war ended. My father used to stay with someone he called Aunt Winifred with his family, but he is not sure of her relationship or, sadly, her last name! Any clues would be gratefully accepted.

In June this year it will be 100 years since the railway to Yanac opened on 27th June 1916. I've compiled an extensive article on the history of the Jeparit - Yanac Railway. During 1939 an extensive grain silo building operation took place and the construction of the silos at Detpa and Lorquon took place. Would you be able to confirm when the silos were constructed at Netherby and Yanac took place? Ready for the 1940-41 season, but I'm unable to qualify this. But I do know that a Henry Newcombe was killed on 13/5/1940 after falling in the Yanac silo (whilst under construction?) Hope you maybe able to help? Bruce Payne
