About
Sacré Cœur is a Catholic Independent School for girls from Prep to Year 12. Founded by the French order of nuns, the Society of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ), in 1888, Sacré Cœur is part of a larger Sacred Heart network, with over 150 sisters school across 41 countries. There are four Sacred Heart schools in the Australian and New Zealand network. Sacré Cœur has its origins in the vision of St Madeleine Sophie Barat who founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in Paris in 1800.
Our motto, 'Cor Unum et anima una in corde Jesu,' means one heart and one mind in the heart of Jesus Christ. Our students aspire to share in and model a Cor Unum spirit which is demonstrated by their ability to live, grow and share with others an open and generous heart.
Our collection
Sacré Cœur Archives (1985)
For over 135 years, Sacré Cœur has been a celebrated fixture of Melbourne's Burke Road, working to share the educational vision of St Madeleine Sophie Barat with our students and community. Since the 1980s, the school's Archives have striven to preserve this rich history, and the traditions of the school and the RSCJ sisters. The Archives' collections include a wide variety of material relating to the school, its staff and students, the Sacred Heart Religious, and the wider Burke Road community - all of which help to document Sacré Cœur's growth since its founding through to today.
