Cairnlea was developed on the site of the former Albion Explosives Factory, a major Commonwealth munitions manufacturing facility that operated during the twentieth century. Before residential development could begin, the site underwent extensive environmental assessment and decontamination works to remove the legacy of its industrial and defence-related use.

The transformation of the former explosives factory into a new housing estate represented one of the largest urban redevelopment projects undertaken in Melbourne's western suburbs and marked a significant change in the area's landscape and identity.

Alongside his music career, he campaigned extensively on environmental and conservation issues and served as President of the Australian Conservation Foundation, helping to raise public awareness of the protection of Australia’s natural environment. Garrett later entered federal politics, where his long-standing commitment to environmental issues led to his appointment as Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts.

The Friends of Kororoit Creek (FOKC) is a community-based environmental volunteer organisation formed in 1999 to protect, restore and enhance the natural environment along Kororoit Creek in Melbourne's western suburbs, particularly within the Brimbank area. The group was established with support from a Brimbank City Council grant and has since grown into an active organisation that undertakes environmental restoration, revegetation, litter removal, habitat creation, community education and advocacy projects along the creek corridor. Its mission is to protect and enhance the creek's environment while involving and empowering local residents in caring for their natural surroundings.

The Friends of Kororoit Creek is a volunteer environmental organisation established in 1999 to protect and restore the Kororoit Creek corridor. Through revegetation projects, habitat restoration, clean-up activities and community education, the group has played a significant role in improving the environmental health of one of Melbourne's most important urban waterways while fostering community stewardship of the natural landscape.

The Sunshine Ten Pin Bowling Centre was known as AMF Sunshine Bowl, located on Ballarat Road, Sunshine. It operated from the late 20th century until its closure (likely early 2000s). The centre had a classic AMF layout with multiple lanes, arcade machines and hosting night league competitions. The venue was very popular for birthday parties, school excursions, and local competitions.

The Powder Puff Women's Tenpin Bowling League played an important role in promoting women's participation in organised sport and community life. Beyond competition, the league provided opportunities for friendship, recreation and social engagement, reflecting the growing popularity of tenpin bowling as a significant community pastime during the twentieth century.

Through her dedication to gardening and community improvement, she played a significant role in enhancing the appearance and liveability of Sunshine.

Anti-Cancer Day events were important community initiatives that raised awareness of cancer prevention, early detection and treatment while supporting fundraising efforts for research and patient services. These events brought together volunteers, survivors, families and local organisations in a shared commitment to improving health outcomes and supporting those affected by cancer.

As a consequence, the club was unable to operate its gaming facilities and reportedly lost approximately $90,000 in revenue during the shutdown. The uncertainty caused significant concern among staff, many of whom feared for their jobs while the licence issue was being resolved. Following the reopening of the gaming area, all employees retained their positions, making the event a welcome outcome for both the workforce and the club.
