About
TarraWarra Museum of Art (TWMA) opened in December 2003 and is the first significant privately funded, publicly owned visual arts museum in Australia. It is located in the beautiful Yarra Valley, just one hour's drive from Melbourne, in a building designed by Melbourne architect Allan Powell. TWMA's exhibition program includes collection works, international art, single artist survey shows, contemporary art, and installations. TWMA also offers a wide range of public programs and educational activities. TWMA operates as a not-for-profit trust and is funded by the philanthropic Besen Family Foundation.
Our collection
TarraWarra Museum of Art (TWMA) was founded by Australian art collectors and philanthropists Eva Besen AO and Marc Besen AO. The collection includes Australian art from 1950 to the present day, featuring prominent artists who have shaped the development of modern art in Australia. The museum continues to tell the story of Australian art as the TWMA collection grows each year through new acquisitions and donations.
