About
The purpose of the Healesville and District Historical Society Inc. is to encourage and facilitate the study of the history of Healesville and district. To this end the Society shall acquire, research, conserve, interpret and exhibit material which illustrates this history.
Our collection
The Society has a range of resources that can help with research projects. Whether it be to learn more about family history, a house, or the town and its people and businesses; click here to see what we have that may be of help.
Our volunteers know a huge amount about the history of Healesville and District but when that fails or specific information is required such as photos or public records, we have significant other resources to turn to. These include:
Microfilm Records including the “Evelyn Observer”, “Healesville Guardian” and “Lilydale Express”.
Bound copies of more recent local papers.
Indexed copies of School Registers from around the district.
Consolidated index of various local Electoral Rolls.
Indexes to the Yarra Glen, Healesville, Kangaroo Ground & Queenstown Cemeteries.
A collection of local family history data (new contributions welcome).
An extensive collection of ephemera and other objects of historical interest from the distant past to the present.
The Society has a good collection of books for sale which relate to the history of the district. See the Publications page on our website.
There are also many thousands of photographs in the collection, most of which are available for copying (at a fee). Commercial inquiries welcome; please contact the Society for further details.
