Uniting Church Archives - Synod of Victoria Malvern East, Victoria

The Archives has extensive material (Methodist, Presbyterian, Congregational and Uniting Church) stored off site and a Reference Library which is on site. The Archives are financed by the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania and staffed by an Archivist and volunteers. The Archives are part of the Uniting Church's national network of archives and linked with UCA Historical Society (VIC) in Lectures and displays. Research is undertaken for a fee.

We have a fairly complete Methodist collection with significant holdings of Congregational and Presbyterian material. We also have a collection of Uniting Church Archives at State and local level.

Regalia - Deputy Chief Ray Sash

MGC009.1 Deputy Chief Ray gold Sash with gold fringed ends and "D.C.R." in satin stitch inside royal blue stem-stitched circle. 1st Degree circle, 2nd Degree star, 3rd Degree cross and crown gold metal symbols. MGC009.2 Deputy Chief Ray gold Sash with gold fringed ends and "D.C.R." in gold satin stitch on a royal blue appliqued ivy leaf. 2nd Degree star, 3rd Degree cross and gold metal crown above. This sash does not confirm to the standard outlined in the Methodist Girls' Comradeship Constitution.

Historical information

Sash was worn at all meetings except where the program made it in impractical.

Portable communion set

Uniting Church Archives - Synod of Victoria, Malvern East

Brown leather carry case with a brown metal base, a carry handle and two lockable latches on the font. The box has a blue velvet lining. The box holds a paten, diameter 12.0 cm, and a wafer tin which are held in pouches in the lid. Two bottles with cork and silver lids are in fitted compartments inside the box which also contains a small white embroidered cloth. There is embossed gold lettering on the front of the box. The box also holds a letter from the Rev Douglas W Risstrom.

Historical information

The Rev A W Pederick was a chaplain who served in the New Guinea Campaign during WWII. His service included the Kokoda Trail.

War Club - Club of Lomai

Historical information

Supposedly belonged to Lomai, the first Christian convert on the island of Tanna, in the New Hebrides. Possibly given as a gift to Presbyterian missionary Dr. John G. Paton.

Deaconess Ray royal blue cotton sash with four white bars worn in the centre and rosette of royal blue, white and gold. It was worn over the right shoulder and joined at the left side below the waist.

Incomplete MOK Principal Court Shield - purple velvet shield with gold metallic "3 chain" braid) with gold cotton collar. The shield has a fabric and bead Star of Youth symbol. The upper right quadrant has a metal Councillor's symbol "C" and the Past Knight Commander symbol of a crown.

Keyed presented to F.J. Cato who opened the Hoban Memorial Chapel in the Wesley Church, Londsale Street, Melbourne on Saturday 4 November 1933. The Rev. Dr. Samuel John Hoban was the former Superintendent of the Wesley Central Mission.
