Arthur Edward Hedgeman Davis was born in Hackney London c. 1909. His parents were John Davis (1884 - 1979) and Kathleen Demarius Davis nee Hedgeman (1884 - 1979). He had three brothers who survived childhood : Walter Norman Hedgeman Davis (1907 - 2003), Kenneth Hedgeman Davis (1920 - 2001) and Ronald Hedgeman Davis (1928 - 2015). It is not known when the family migrated to Australia but Ken was born in Wellington New Zealand in 1920 so they may have come to Australia via New Zealand and left London prior to 1920. Ronald was born in Melbourne in 1928 so it can be assumed that they arrived in Australia prior to that date. Arthur became entitled to a Crown Grant of 33 plus acres of land at the corner of Dudley and Jumping Creek Roads Wonga Park and the Crown Grant was sealed in 1944. Arthur was in the RAAF during the 2nd World War. The 1941 electoral roll for Evelyn shows John, Kathleen and Edna (Teddy) all residing at Wonga Park but not Arthur who may have been away with the RAAF at that time. Before the 1948/49 Scout Jamboree at Yarra Brae Arthur erected a kiosk made largely from an old train carriage near the corner of Dudley and Jumping Creek Roads. He also added living quarters to this kiosk on the eastern end of the carriage and a deck on the northern side He also built a small dwelling a short distance to the east (where No. 64 Jumping Creek Road is now) for the use of his parents and possibly a brother. In the early 1950s he commenced a staged subdivision of the land with many approximately one third acre lots fronting Jumping Creek Road. Teddy died in 1964 and much later Arthur married Constance Helen Thompson nee Thomas. Arthur died in

Letter from Kaye Coles who left Wonga Park at the age of 4 1/2 yrs. Her sister was 9 yo when they left. Her parents the Farams and her grandparents, the Walters were living and managing the Wonga Park Post Office and telephone exchange. Margaret Fankhauser went to school with Janice, and this story is very like her own childhood in Wonga Park.
1889 paper subdivision of Section 9 Parish of Warrandyte which appears to not have gone ahead and was resubdivided in 1893 to form the 8 Hours Pioneer Settlement in Wonga Park

The Jamboree Daily was a newspaper reporting on the 1955-56 pan Pacific Jamboree held at Clifford Park in Wonga Park. Clifford Park was part of Yarra Brae owned by the then Honourable Lewis Clifford, later Lord Clifford of Chudleigh
As discussed, please find attached photos of the "Milk Bar" and Post Office near the NE corner of Jumping Creek Rd and Yarra Rd, Wonga Park. Previously I was under the impression, it was a bit of a general store, but perhaps that was not the case. Jack and Marion Newman ran the store from the mid sixties till around 1970 as I remember, but Robert (Rob) their son lives in Coldstream and he may recall the exact time his parents operated the store. The photos taken appear to be about "1970" vintage and were taken perhaps when they left. In regard to the other photo that I was trying to locate and find out about the function. The photo itself is entitled "Farewell to Mr and Mrs Bridger" and as you can see there were many people in attendance. In regard to the date of the photo I suspected it was taken circa 1916-1918 as my great great grandfather John Thomas Allen Snr (1841-1918) is in the photo and my paternal grandmother Rose Allen (1906-1989) is also in the photo and appears to be about 8-10 years old. In addition Rose's older sisters Ruby V.E. Allen (1904-1987) and Pearl C. Allen (1900-1990) and they appear to be in mid to late teens. So this makes me reasonable confident about the timing of the photograph. The photograph also includes Mars Buckley (Buckley and Nunn) and ?Marie Pinkerton (Haberdashery store in Croydon) who were friends of the Allen Family.
