I believe the picture taken is of Rochester, Victoria. The two main buildings pictured are the Shamrock hotel and the Commercial hotel and next to that hidden behind the tree is the old Westpac building. T. Enamel sign - steel back, white enamel background with black letters, "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board" / A reward of Two pounds will be paid by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board for information leading to the conviction of any person or persons wilfully damaging or interfering with this apparatus." Has the marks from the sign being supported during the enamelling process on the rear. Passengers could often transfer from one service to another - eg changing from a tram to a bus, without having to pay a second fare. A transfer ticket would be issued on request and this along with the original fare ticket would be shown to the conductor or bus driver at the time of transfer. Check tickets would be issued by a conductor to record that the person had shown a periodical eg scholars ticket. This enabled passenger counting as well.
