Newspaper - Articles, Willsmere Swimming Club, 1930
Henry Christian (c.1809-91) was one of the first settlers in Kew. He arrived in Victoria with his wife Agnes and son Orlando in 1855 on the Gypsy Queen. He established a rope-making business in Bulleen Road by 1858 but was declared insolvent two years later. In his final years, he was celebrated as one of the oldest living settlers of the district. His son, Orlando Henry Beater Christian (c.1853-1930) became a member of the Hawthorn Band and a foundation member of the Willsmere Swimming Club. Three newspaper articles relating to the Willsmere Swimming Club of which ‘Olly’ Christian was the only life-member. The school, on the corner of Loughnan and Warrandyte Roads in Ringwood was closed by the government at the end of last year. A number of councillors are believed to be bitterly opposed to the deal. Cr Nick Kirmos said spending $1.1 million is "financially irresponsible" as "the actual valuation of the site is $860,000"` -

Ticket contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 31, ESCo, Ballarat Tramways, Lunch Hour Weekly Ticket, price 1/6, printed for Week 11, that is not available for Sundays or Holidays. Ticket printed on light weight card, in two colours, off white and light brown, numbered 6646 available only between the City and Macarthur St.. Notes the conditions of use, the time available for which the ticket may be used and where. Ticket has been punched or nipped twice and shows that it was stapled to a block. Printed by J.J. Miller, Melbourne. Note Item Not formally Numbered. Image btm2494i2 shows position on page relative to items 2494 to 2504. Provides a report from The Age, 28-11-1989 written by Ingrid Swendsen, about the rejection by the Planning and Environment Minister , Tom Roper to protect the former cable tram winding or Engine house on the corner of Bridge and Punt Roads Richmond, despite the recommendation of the Historic Buildings Council to add it to the register. The building was later demolished by the Roads Corporation to widen the intersection. The Tramways have a small sub-station on the site. Quotes Douglas Hill of the National Trust and Roz Hansen of the Historic Buildings Council. SECV - 1/6d Weekly Ticket - white card, with black and red printing. Headed with SEC details, punch marks for day of week on the sides, in and out directions and in the centre area of the ticket, overprinted in red, numbers 1 to 8. On rear has availability details, where it can be used, not available on Sunday and ticket number "EA341101" printed on the ticket in black ink. Has been used and possibly ex a tramcar given the condition. Note different style to that held to date (5/2005) for use in Ballarat and Bendigo.
