In 1918 Stanley Savige had a role in saving about 50,000 Assyrian refugees in Persia (modern day Iraq). It was collected by Legatee Rogers when he was researching Stan Savige after unveiling a bronze bust of Savige in Morwell. Source of the document is unknown. Document was from a folder of documents donated to the archive by Legatee Bill Rogers that related to his time as President (March 2006 - March 2008).A record of Legacy founder Stanley Savige being revered by the Australian Assyrian community.Print out x 5 pages about the Assyrian Levies.stan savige, assyrians, levies -

Melbourne Legacy
Document, War and Peace
Anonymous statement of the author's policy on 'War' and 'Peace', essentially a polemic. Undated but references seem to be to the second World War - 'An all-out effort by every Australian to win the War, both in conjunction with our Allies and by ourselves.' Many of his recommendations would be seen to be outrageous today but were clearly indicative of the times, whilst others revealed a common sense approach - 'To unify Australian railway gauges'. This particular copy belonged to Legatee J.G. Gillespie, President of Melbourne Legacy in 1938.An illustration of social beliefs during the second World War.White foolscap paper with black type.First page: 'L/ Gillespie' in pencil, 'Forwarded for your information, [illegible initials], 16/2/[illegible]' in pen. Document - Press Release 1975, Melbourne Legacy, Success through Legacy - you've probably seen him play football, 1975
A press release from Melbourne Legacy in 1975 which relates the story of a junior legatee playing professional football. The information was intended to be used by press and magazines etc. The junior legatee is not named but it mentions he had a rough home life, then his father died and his siblings became State Wards. His father was a returned ex-serviceman and Legacy heard of the boy's situation and began regular visits to the family and gave not only advice but financial assistance as well, to try and provide a normal family life. The younger children were returned from state care. The future footballer endeavoured to rise above his background and on finishing school he wanted to apply for a job that called for honesty and integrity and involved responsibility for money. Thi family background was held against him until with the help of Legacy he won the day. Legacy helped provide appropriate clothing for his new position. Since then he has gone from strength to strength in his career and in his sport as well. 'Legacy has often been referred to as an organisation of human kindness'.A record of how Legacy promoted their work in the 1970s.Buff foolscap page x 2 with black type of a press release in 1975.Title 'Success through Legacy''press release, promotion, case studies -

John would find wealth in the goldfields once worked and would use the money earned to buy land in what is now Kew. In this endeavour with friends found, he sought to name the area ‘Cotham’ but was ousted by an official who preferred its now recognisable name. Cotham Road is a legacy of this disagreement.
