The first documentary evidence of this house comes from Rate Books which record that in 1893 a Mrs Treadway was the owner of this building with an N.A.V. of £80. At that date the occupier of the house was Charles B. Kelly, a clerk, while by 1910 Kelly had become the owner of the property described in that year as a six-roomed stone, brick and wood house with stables and outbuildings.(Kew Conservation Study, 1988)Colour photographic positive of one of 'Glencara'. It is a single storeyed house clad in render and dominated by a verandah that wraps around the front and sides, following the line of the projecting polygonal bay window. The verandah has elegance, being supported on coupled candy-twist columns and decorated with cast iron, and it returns around to the side entrance. The slate roof is intact. Photograph - Friends of the Park float, Port Melbourne Festival, Pat Grainger, Feb 1989
This float was created by members of Friends of the Park, a group formed in 1987 against government proposals to turn the railway and reservation into a grand boulevard to service the proposed Sandridge City 'bayside' development. Members worked for months to make the decorations, added to a trailer. During the festival procession sausages were BBQ'd on the trailer and handed out to the crowd. On arrival at Murphy's Reserve all floats were put out of sight, and few saw the results of their efforts. One of 16 colour photos of Friends of the Park float for the February 1989 Port Melbourne Festival: Preparations for the procession forming by the Raglan Street flats - Nellie Thackruh and Maree Menzelcelebrations fetes and exhibitions, public action campaigns, andrea ellis, friends of the park, nellie thackruh, port melbourne festival -

Photograph - VMR soldier
The Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised in 1885 as the mounted arm of Victoria’s colonial defence forces. Companies were recruited in rural centres across the State, members of country rifle clubs forming a significant component. They were semi-professional: only a small allowance was paid to members. Members were required to provide their own mount. Mounted riflemen were not cavalry, not being equipped with lance or sword. The were trained to fight with rifle and bayonet after dismounting. Horses enabled rapid and far reaching manoeuvrability. Upon Federation, the VMR companies became Australian Light Horse regiments.Fine study of pre-Federation soldier showing uniform.Black and white photograph of a soldier of the pre-Federation Victorian Mounted Rifles.victoria, mounted rifles, uniform, military -
