Printed black and white photographic postcard of Ballarat ESCo crossbench tram No. 19 at the intersection of Armstrong and Sturt St. travelling east along the north side of Sturt Street. Photo appears to be taken in the early days of tram operation - small destination box. Has the Ballarat Town Hall, the National Mutual Life building, Snows and other buildings on the south side of Sturt. St. Has a number of horse drawn vehicles in the image as well. Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat" in bottom right hand corner". On rear of postcard, printed is the words "Post Card", areas for "Correspondence" and "Address Only" and in stamp area in a square "Kodak Australia" twice. Handwritten on the card is "With Best Wishes for a Happy New Year to all Rostella / W. Lovett". Flag, Evan Evans Pty Ltd, "100,000 Man Hours Accident Free", early to mid 1960's
Yields information about the way the SEC marked the achievement of safety records by workers and yields information about the work of the SEC Ballarat tram depot.A flag or banner made for the SEC to enable an award to work sites that had achieved 100,000 man hours without an accident. Base materials for the flag is blue cloth with blue cotton seamed edges, the left hand side has been overlain by about 15mm to provide a part where a dowel or rope could be passed through. Has the 100,000 Man Hours area with a yellow paint overlay and the 100,000 hours in black paint. The Accident Free is in a darker yellow pain and the SEC Logo of the Electricity Supply Department is in the same yellow base with black lines. On the rear is the Evan Evans manufacturing logo with the Olympic rings giving address and that they were the official flag makers for the XVIth (16th) Olympic games (Melbourne 1956) and the VIIth (7th) British Empire and Commonwealth Games (Perth 1962). This indicates the flag was made early to mid 1960's. Certificate - Illuminated Address - Corporal P E Cook, He Answered His Country's Call
Corporal Phillip Edward Cook, 4470, 46th Battalion AIF Over 300 men from the Shire of Whittlesea enlisted during WWI. One of these was Corporal Cook, son of the Rev. Richard and Elizabeth Cook, and husband of Jessie May Cook of Whittlesea. On 27 July 1915, at the age of 33, Phillip Cook enlisted in the AIF. He was killed in action at Bullecourt on 11 April 1917. Corporal Cook had no grave, but is remembered with honour at the Villers-Bretenneux Memorial, Somme, France.Illuminated address, framed - Record of Admiration and appreciation to Corporal PE Cook killed in action in 1917, during WWI. This four-postcard group is the ninth in a series of records of items in the collection of Edgar Dawson DCM. Dawson was the Regimental Sergeant Major of 57th Battalion, AIF. C Company of the 57th was composed of men drawn from Echuca, Eaglehawk and Bendigo. The postcards are from his personal album, and many are annotated in Dawson's hand with explanatory notes on the subject. Refer to Cat No 893 for his service details.
