The following items are associated with the display of Horse Tram No. 1 at the Ballarat Engine and Machinery Preservation Society Rally at the Ballarat Showgrounds on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1, 1998. 807.1 - A4 sheet of paper, printed by BTM on 27/2/1998, advising the horse tram was on display at the showgrounds - used at the depot. 807.2 - A4 sheets of card, printed by BTM on 27/2/1998, advising people to take care when climbing the stairs, and please do not enter signs on reverse, tours on the hours and where queries could be made. Printed by laser printer on yellow card and contained within a plastic display folder. 807.3 - Three copies of the Rally brochure or flier, advertising the Rally at the Showgrounds. Printed mid 1997, on orange paper, phone numbers etc. 807.4 - A4 exhibit sheet for use on the Horse tram at the exhibition. Souvenir of Melbourne cable tram closure in Oct. 1940 - made to fit a box of matches to minimize damage to the box while being carried in a pocket. Consists of a printed photo of cable trailer 571 in Nicholson St Fitzroy with the Royal Exhibition buildings in the background. Lists the opening dates of the various lines. The matchbox is by Bryant and May, made in Britain. On the rear of the box is an advert for the Orient Line of Royal Mail steamers in Europe and Australia. Not know who made the matchbox holder. Second matchbox made by Bryant & May of Richmond - has a 2nd world war message on the box label. They are addressed from a George to his wife Louie. WW1. Item in the collection re George Bailey Jackson, refer cat No 3446P for his service details.This is a purchased buckram book. On front it shows gold line dropping down froma horizontal bar. The tips of the gold lines show a Fleur De Lys on each tip. The phrase "Postcard Album" is also printed in gold. Inside are numerous pages cut with various slots to hold postcards. The postcards are brilliant, beautiful and awe inspiring - their colours, cottons etc. Most are sewn, some are hand painted. Some have intricate lace work.A lot of postcards have "To Louie from George" (Louie possibly his wife), Louie was c/o address Nth Ryde, Isle of Wight, England. Memorabilia - Framed Photograph, Private Cyril Buckler, c1916
Studio portrait of 5347 Private Cyril Buckler, 14th Battalion, presented in his memory as a past student, by his parents to North Wangaratta State School. Cyril was a postman from Wangaratta Victoria, prior to enlistment on 16 February 1916. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Euripides on 4 April 1916 for Egypt. His unit relocated to the Western Front, France, in June 1916. Private Buckler was killed in action near Pozieres, France, on 7 August 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. This image of Cyril Buckler in uniform with the rank of Sergeant was probably taken while he was serving in the Senior Cadets or Citizen Forces prior to enlistment in the AIF Framed photograph presented to North Wangaratta State School in memory of a past student killed in action at Pozieres, France on 7 Aug 1916 during the First World War. North Wangaratta State School 2391 opened in May 1881 and closed on October 26 1969. Today a plaque commemorates the old site in Eldorado Road North Wangaratta.Wooden frame with gold insert, wooden mount.
