Uniform - Coat Button/s, Stokes & Sons and Melbourne
Demonstrates the manufacture of uniform items and their use in uniforms for tramway crews in Ballarat and a larger set and a strong association with a SEC tramway employee.Set of twelve SEC uniform clothing buttons from a former Ballarat Tram driver. Each about 24 diameter, with SEC crest, 1921 and organisation name embossed onto outer surface, with backing piece and lug for sewing on rear. Nickel plated silver? Badges in varying condition of new to worn. Each has name of manufacturer stamped on rear part - "Stokes & Sons Melbourne". Donor of items 1259, 1260 and uniform jackets. Commonplace postcard sent by Frank O Brien World War One veteran and former patient of the repat, to his father from France during World Ward One. This item is not of great significance. Its value to the hospital collection is that it is memorabilia of Frank O'Brien a former patient and benefactor of the repat. Other Frank O'Brien items in the hospital collection White cardboard decoratively embossed mountboard surround and cardboard backing. Centre contains an embroidered muslin with the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces Rising Sun Emblem surrounded by the Australian and British flags with leaf decoration. This inscription is on the reverse of the postcard. Uniform - Jacket, RAAF Chaplain, c1942
The jacket belonged to RAAF Chaplain Aubrey Alfred Quick. Rev Quick served in seven Methodist Circuits in Victoria, one in Tasmania, one City Mission (North Melbourne) and also an appointment with the Methodist Inland Mission in Central Australia. He was one of the first ministers to be appointed to the new John Flynn Memorial Church in Alice Springs. Aubrey Quick was a part-time Chaplain in the Royal Australian Airforce and received an Order of Australia for his pastoral care of the apprentices the RAAF. He served on the University of Melbourne Queens College Council for 23 years. Navy blue wool belted jacket with four brass buttons and a brass buckle. The jacket has four pleated pockets, each with a brass button, one small ticket pocket on the RHS and two pale blue grosgrain ribbons at the cuffs. It is lined with black cotton and the sleeves with cream striped lining.
