John Simpson Kirkpatrick enlisted in the Australian Army Medical Corps serving as a stretcher bearer at Gallipoli. With the help of a donkey he recovered wounded from the battlefield, often under fire. He was killed in action on 19 May 1915 and was awarded a Mention in Despatches for his act of bravery.Simpson and his donkey has become the most famous of the images arising from Australia's Gallipoli Campaign in the First World WarA small statuette depicting a World War 1 Australian serviceman assisting a wounded comrade who is riding on a donkey. This statuette is made from pewter and symbolises the brave deeds of Private John Simpson Kirkpatrick who, during the early days of the Gallipoli campaign, similarly assisted a number of wounded servicemen. This Army Medical Corps serviceman was a stretcher bearer and commonly known as "Simpson". The statuette is mounted on a stained wooden base which has a small title plate at its front edge.Title plate inscribed "SIMPSON AND HIS DONKEY"

The recipient of this medal is believed to be VX44669 Private James Robert Clancy of Thougla Upper which was in the Shire of Upper Murray. Private Clancy was born in Sandy Creek on 30 August 1903 enlisted in the Army on 8 July 1940 and was discharged on 8 March 1943. He served in the Signals Section of the 2nd Australian Anti-Aircraft Regiment.Municipalities in Australia recognised their residents who enlisted in World Wars by the issue of some form of recognition. This is a nice example of a medallic form of such recognition.A collection of items presented by the family of WWll Australian Army serviceman James Robert Clancy VX44669. Clancy was a signalman in the 2/2 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment. Refer to items 00456.1, 00456.2, 00456.3 and 00456.4.

Pair of trench art candle holders made from Japanese type 96, 25 mm anti aircraft gun ammunition casings. Presumably souvenired by an Australian serviceman during World War ll. These used brass cartridges have been lightly etched or engraved with typical New Guinea designs and the lettering "LAE" and "1943-4". The type 96 was a Japanese built variant of the French Hotchkiss 25mm anti-aircraft gun. The type 96 was designed as a dual-purpose weapon for use against armored vehicles and aircraft, but was primarily used as an anti-aircraft gun in fixed mounts of one to three guns on Imperial Japanese Naval vessels.The cartridges are engraved with typical New Guinea scenes and the word "LAE", one has the date "1943-4".

A standard issue Royal Australian Air Force dark blue peaked cap with woven black hat band and patent leather black chin strap secured by gilded buttons with RAAF insignia. A cast economy issue gilded metal Other Rank's RAAF badge is attached to the front of the hat band. The sweatband is made of brown leather and the inside of the cap is lined with blue corded silk with a clear plastic protective cover. A rectangular white manufacturers label is attached to the lining bearing details including size, etc. The serviceman has written his name and service number on the leather sweatband. Pocket size Holy Bible in protective cardboard sleeve. The bible has a hard cover in a buff colour with gold embossed lettering, the sleeve is in the same buff colour. This bible was originally owned by a World War 2 Australian Army serviceman, Gunner A. E. Sands, service number V 195271.The sleeve is labelled ""ACTIVE SERVICE" EDITION, OXFORD TEXT BIBLE, Oxford India Paper, Beryl 32mo, SA2701/2" The bible is inscribed "HOLY BIBLE" in gold embossed letters on the front cover and the spine, there is also the word "OXFORD" in gold embossed letters on the spine.

Set of three service medals issued to Australian Army serviceman Thomas Patrick Flood, number 3757, Private, 8th Battalion, 1st AIF who served during World War 1. Set consists of the 1914-1915 star, the British War Medal and the Allied Victory Medal, these medals are complete with original ribbons and are unmounted. A small cardboard box addressed to the recipient is enclosed. Presumably this box was originally used to deliver one of the medals by mail.

Small statuette depicting an Australian serviceman assisting a wounded comrade. The statuette depicts a scene from a famous moving film taken in New Guinea during World War 2 by Australian War Correspondent, Damien Peter Parer who was attached to the Australian Military Forces. The statuette is made from Pewter and is mounted on a stained wooden base. The following text statement is copied from the AWM website and describes the image in further detail: During the advance on Salamaua VX89711 Sergeant Gordon Raymond Charles Ayre MM, a 58/59th Battalion bandsman from Shepparton, Victoria, in pouring rain assists a wounded mate, VX132355 Private William Oswald Wallace Johnson, of the same unit, across Alan's (Allen's?) Creek to an advanced regimental aid post. Johnson had been wounded by a Japanese grenade on the 13th of July 1943 during an attack on the "coconuts" area. Sergeant Ayre was awarded the military medal for his performance during this action. This is one of the iconic images of the Second World War. Set of three service medals issued to Australian Army serviceman, Percy Edward Cherry, service number 3278, Private, who served with an Army A.A.M.C. detail during World War 1 (according to records). This set consists of the 1914-1915 star, the British War Medal 1914-1918 and the Victory Medal, all medals are complete with ribbons and have been mounted on a common bar for attachment to the wearer's clothing. Note: these medals are all stamped with the number M2-105682 which is presumed to indicate a second issue set of medals to this serviceman. The medals are actually stamped with the unit being A.S.C.

The back cover has a summary of the book contents and includes an acknowledgment of the contributions of Keith Payne VC AM KSJ in producing the book. Bottom of back cover is the Logo of Big Sky Publishing, TPI Association Badge who put the book together, A Bar code of ISBN 978-1-925520-98-9.
